IMP Signs MoU with Three American Labs
2009-12-08

Prof. XIAO Guoqing, the director of IMP (Institute of Modern Physics), CAS, visited the United States with CAS Delegation from Nov. 11 to 20, 2009. The CAS delegation visited Argonne National Lab, Oak Ridge National Lab, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, SLACMichigan State University (MSU), and Santa Cruz Astronomy Observatory at University of California.

Prof. XIAO, on behalf of IMP, signed memorandums of understanding on nuclear physics, accelerator technology, research and development cooperation between IMP and Physics Division of Argonne National Laboratory, National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) at MSU, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Through visits to the scientific facilities such as the heavy ion fusion facility, the superconducting linac and superconducting cyclotron, the advanced synchrotron radiation facility, the spallation neutron source, as well as the laboratories of nuclear physics, the CAS delegation investigated the status, function, and development of the American national labs, the research progress of nuclear physics, interdisciplinary subject and high energy physics, the progress of FRIB(Facility for Rare Isotope Beams), the development direction for the future accelerator, the R&D progress in new generation accelerator, and the superconducting accelerator manufacturing techniques.

It is expected that the visit will strengthen the ties between IMP and the American national labs and universities, and promote the competitive power of scientific research and accelerator technology at IMP.
