| CAS President Lu Yongxiang Meets with IAC Co-president Robbert Dijkgraaf |

Lu Yongxiang, president of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) met with Robbert Dijkgraaf, the co-president of InterAcademy Council (IAC) in Beijing on September 13, 2009.
Lu and Kijkgraaf exchanged ideas on IAC's cooperation with UN, UNDP and the World Bank, and agreed to set up a development committee under IAC to facilitate the implementation of IAC's strategies.
Lu and Kijkgraaf also listened to briefings on the implementation of the Water Project and Disease Prevention Project under IAC and agreed to round up an international team of experts on the projects. They both agree to hold seminars on the projects on November 20-22 in Beijing. On behalf of Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, Kijkgraaf expressed that the academy will provide financial support for the water project.
At the meeting, Lu proposed to launch a new research project under IAC, "clean, low-carbon green innovation" in combating the global ecological crisis. It will invite scientists from Europe, American, Israel, Brazil, India and China to participate and collaborate with international organizations like UN, UNESCO, UNDP, FAO, WB and ICSU.
Lu also introduced to Kijkgraaf the foreign scientist scholarship set up by CAS and wished Holland research institutes will support young researchers to come to China to conduct their research. |
