| Chinese Researcher Elected Commissioner of IAU Commission 41 |

Sun Xiaochun, a historian of astronomy from Institute for the History of Natural Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was elected as the Commissioner of IAU (International Astronomical Union) Commission 41 at the IAU 27th General Assembly in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Commission 41 (History of Astronomy) of IAU deals with all aspects of astronomical history and heritage, from ancient and indigenous knowledge through to developments in modern astronomy. It encourages and supports research in the history of astronomy and related fields such as archaeoastronomy, and is also concerned with the identification, documentation and preservation of vital aspects of astronomical heritage such as sites, artefacts, instruments and archives.
C41 is one of the largest Commissions in the Union, with nearly 400 members from more than 40 countries.
Sun Xiaochun will be taking over as the Commission's webmaster for the 2009–12 triennium. Accordingly the physical location of the site will move from the UK to China, but the address http://www.historyofastronomy.org/ will remain the same. |
