Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), as China's highest academic institution and national comprehensive R & D center in natural sciences and high-tech innovation, has always attached great importance to the academic exchange and cooperation with international science and technology communities. At present, Chinese Academy of Sciences has established formal contacts with major research and academic organizations in more than 60 countries (including all the developed countries and some developing countries). In addition to various kinds of cooperative activities on mutually interested issues, CAS has signed more than 70 cooperative agreements at the Academy level and more than 700 agreement at the institute level with their partners spread over 40-odd countries and regions in the world.

 

Through official and non-official channels, Chinese Academy of Sciences carries out various kinds of collaboration with its foreign partners, such as joint investigations, joint ventures, joint laboratories, joint young scientist groups, workshops, training courses, bilateral and multi-lateral seminars. Substantial international cooperation has been conducted focusing on the national and Academy's major projects and has played an important role in basic research, applied research and development work. The number of personnel exchange at CAS with foreign institutions totals 8,000 person-times annually. International cooperation has made significant contributions to the improvement of science and technology standards, training of talents, upgrading of experimental conditions, acquisition of foreign investment, and exchange of information.
