Main functions: to predict world tendencies in the disciplinary development of earth sciences, ecology, environmental sciences and regional agricu1ture; to formulate development plans for major disciplines in cooperation with relevant bureaus; to organize and coordinate research institutes when they apply for projects to be listed in major national programs and national large-scale science programs; and to undertake the planning, initiation, bidding, supervision, appraisal and official acceptance of major CAS projects in these fields. The Bureau of Science and Technology for Resources and the Environment also provides advice and guidance on the readjustment or re-orientation of development directions of CAS institutes and pacesetting candidates in these fields.
